Figure 4: Bacteria "prison cells"
We have confined single bacterial cells in small, agarose microchambers; these chambers allow for the continued growth of cells in a confined but nutritive environment. This is a movie of such cells, viewed from below. Note that many cells still "drive on the right", even in confinement (clockwise circles, when viewed from below).
