Figure 3: Magnetic Half-Shells
A schematic for formation of spherical particles with magnetic functionality. The nanospheres can be either functionalized using thiol chemistry on the metallic layer, or using silane chemistry on the silica spheres. The silica spheres can be optionally dissolved to give freestanding half-shells.
