Figure 8: Operation of TWIST valves
A vacuum (35 Torr) was applied to the outlet channel (100 um tall, 450 um diameter). Tubing to the inlet channels (100 um tall, 100 um diameter) was filled with aqueous solutions of dyes; the channels had a square cross section. The flow of liquid in each inlet channel was controlled with a TWIST valve. The sequence of images show a single valve closed (denoted by an "X") while the rest of the valves are kept open.
